The Associated Press: Democrats drop funds to close Gitmo

House Democrats are refusing to pay for President Barack Obama's plan to relocate prisoners from the Guantanamo detention facility where enemy combatants are being held.
Obama has signed an executive order to close the facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, by early next year. But the Pentagon has yet to come up with a plan on where to put the 240 or so prisoners. Between 50-100 are likely to be sent to the United States.
No lawmaker wants the accused terrorists in their backyard.

They want Gitmo closed but Democrats scared.

While the Democrats boosted the funds Obama requested, the $50 million to relocate Guantanamo Bay detainees has inflamed Congress and given Republicans an opening with which to bash Obama. Many Democrats were skittish about the prospect of voting to bring
terror suspects into the U.S.

President Barack Obama's administration has yet to develop a plan to carry out Obama's executive order to close the Guantanamo Bay facility by early next year. So now we have an executive order but no plan to close it. Maybe President Obama should have had a plan first.

The Pentagon has not said how many of the 240 or so detainees would be transferred to the United States or where they would be held. About 50 to 100 terrorist would be shipped to this country, according to Defense Secretary Robert gates.

EXECUTIVE ORDER By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, the detention facilities at Guantánamo for individuals covered by this order shall be closed as soon as practicable, and no later than 1 year from the date of this order. If any individuals covered by this order remain in detention at Guantánamo at the time of closure of those detention facilities, they shall be returned to their home country, released, transferred to a third country, or transferred to another United States detention facility in a manner consistent with law and the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States.

Option number 1. Returned, released, to their home country, and rejoin the fight against the United States.

Option number 2. Released back into the world.

Option number 3. Transfered, released, to a third country, who don't what them.

Option number 4. Transfered to another United States detention facility like the one at Guantanamo.

So now we know that option 1 through 3 is to release the terrorist. The only other option to detain them is to send the terrorist to the United States.

House Democrats unveiled a $94.4 billion war funding bill Monday and it had no money for the relocation plan. So how will the Democrats get out of this one? If needed, money could be transferred later — without a politically difficult vote.

It's more than just a tough sell for Attorney General Eric Holder this week to persuade European allies to accept Guantanamo detainees.
"It's a 'Mission Impossible' for him, I think," one German analyst said ahead of Holder's arrival in London on Sunday.
President Obama has set a goal of closing the U.S. military detention facility in Cuba by this coming January, and his administration is edging toward taking some prisoners to the U.S., most likely to Virginia. They are Muslims from western China known as Uighurs. Their supporters claim say they never should have been at Guantanamo in the first place.

A Pentagon review of conditions at the Guantanamo Bay military prison, which President Obama ordered, was prepared by Adm. Patrick M. Walsh, the vice chief of naval operations, and has been delivered to the White House. It concluded that the treatment of detainees meets the requirements of the Geneva Conventions but that prisoners in the highest-security camp should be allowed more religious and social interaction.

(The video, uploaded on a terrorist Web site, shows the mutilated bodies of two men dressed in Army camouflage uniforms. The video shows the terrorists hoisting the severed head of one of the soldiers and makes the other soldier's identity clearly recognizable.

Terrorists know the value of videos like this, U.S. military officials in Baghdad said. They noted that snipers in Iraq often have videographers taping their murders and that people can buy DVDs of the murders in stores in Iraq and throughout the Middle East.)

Another aspect of the closure of Getmo-- what to do with the approximately 245 detainees. If returned to their homelands, the detainees could face prison or torture. Europe is considering how they would be screened and which countries would take them — and under what conditions.

"The Americans will have to explain what kind of risks these people pose, why they can't be allowed to enter [the] U.S., why they have to go to Europe, why they can't be sent back to their home countries — and the U.S. has to sort of give a, not a guarantee but almost a guarantee, that these people do not pose a threat any more,"

Of the 245 detainees now at Guantánamo, 21 are accused of war crimes. But it is not clear how many could be charged in the federal court system, a process that could move them out in stages and spread them around the nation. Some analysts have pointed to New York and Virginia as possible locations for federal trials. If found guilty, federal convicts could join other terrorists at a ''supermax'' in Florence, Colo.

If set free where will they go? A Saudi man, sent home from Guantánamo in 2007, had emerged as a leader of an al Qaeda cell with suspected links to a deadly bombing at a U.S.
Embassy in Yemen.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs agreed it should be left to the attorney general to decided about prosecutions. The president has decided it's up to Attorney General Eric Holder, whose former law firm has defended 17 Guantanamo Bay detainees, to determine who -- if anyone -- should be prosecuted for harsh interrogation methods.

Not to prosecute the terrorist but to prosecute our soldiers.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon said on Tuesday that 61 former detainees from its military prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said 18 former detainees are confirmed as "returning to the fight" and 43 are suspected of having done in a report issued late in December by the Defense Intelligence Agency.

What are terrorist good for?

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A suicide car bombing killed 14 people and wounded 20 others Sunday in the town of Jalawla, an official with Jalawla police said.

Six police officers were killed, and another five officers were among the wounded, the official said.

These are the people that President Barack Obama wants to release from the prison in Guantanamo. So when you close a prison you must do something with the prisoners. And this is a tough question, where do you put them. Many of the about 250 Guantanamo detainees are cleared for release, but the Bush administration has not been able to find a country willing to take them. Obama wants to break from the Bush administration and bring them to prisons on US soil.
And Obama has made no decision "about how and where to try the detainees. So I guess they will just stay in American Prison instead at the Guantnamo prison. It might be good for them to meet some of our good American boys in our prisons.

What does the ACLU say about this? We are calling on the government to stop indefinite detention, try detainees in the U.S., or release them to countries where they won't be tortured. Remember the Bush administration has not been able to find a country willing to take them. So I say that we should bring them back to where we got them, Right? Since we picked them up in Afghanistan we should just bring them back there. If they return to terrorism our boys in uniform will just kill them. President-elect Obama is sending at least two more combat brigades to Afghanistan to do just that, kill more terrorist.

Now what does the Center for American Progress believes we should do with Guantanamo?
"Create a resettlement and rehabilitation program in partnership with allied countries and international organizations to find homes for detainees who can’t be returned to their home countries and to smooth the reintegration of detainees into society." You should click the link and read this.

Obama said on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday "It is more difficult than I think a lot of people realize and we are going to get it done,... trying to develop a process that "adheres to rule of law" but "doesn't result in releasing people who are intent on blowing us up."

Barack, let me give you a heads up. All those people where in training camps in Afghanistan learning how to kill Americans. How to blow up women and children and kill the innocent. If you let them go, they will go back to killing more women and children.

WASHINGTON — When President-elect Barack Obama went to Israel in July — to the very town, in fact, whose repeated shelling culminated in this weekend’s new fighting in Gaza — he all but endorsed the punishing Israeli attacks now unfolding.

“If somebody was sending rockets into my house, where my two daughters sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that,” he told reporters in Sderot, a small city on the edge of Gaza that has been hit repeatedly by rocket fire. “And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”

President elected Barack Obama.

Where is Barack Obama ? I know he is on vacation in Honolulu and trying to keep a low profile but he remains involved in transition plans and has received intelligence briefings. So Barack Obama knows what is going on and is watching for afar. In four days he has said nothing.

Now when I commented on this in a post, I got the liberal reply.

But Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama put out a statement condemning Russia for their escalation of the conflict with Georgia. And he was not even elected President yet.

Joe was right, it looks like Israel will be the first to test President-elect Barack Obama. Remember the world is looking and see a bare chested man walking from the gym.Celebrity website Celebuzz claimed Obama was "the hottest president ever" while the Sun said "His buff chest and toned tum belie his 47 years and show he's got more in common with George Clooney than George Bush."

Please Barack, you don't have to act like neither of the Georges but you must act. Americans and the World wants to know how you are going to handle this.

Another Female Suicide Bomber Strikes Iraqi Province, Killing 15 Near Courthouse - NYTimes.com

BAGHDAD — The latest in a wave of female suicide bombers killed 15 people and wounded more than 40 others on Sunday near a heavily fortified courthouse and government outpost in central Baquba, Iraqi security officials said. Seven of the dead and 10 of the wounded were Iraqi police officers.

The bomber who struck in Baquba, the provincial capital, wore a vest padded with powerful explosives and laced with small projectiles, which appeared to be iron ball bearings, the officials said. The magnitude of the blast raised questions about the sophistication of the bomb, which witnesses described as unusually strong.

According to the Los Angeles Times the woman was about 35 years old and parked her car near the provincial council building about 1p.m. and was led by two police to a checkpoint where she detonated the explosives.

It makes me wonder what kind of hatred was in this womans heart? When she woke up that morning, she knew she was going to blow herself up. Even her family and the ones who helped her, knew this was the day she would die. Was she going to die and go to heaven? I guess hell never crossed her mined.

We live in a country that was built on the words of Christ and is practiced by many who live here. Love thy neighbor as thy self. Never is this demonstrated more when someone here or across the world goes through a disaster. The people here will rise up and do what ever they can to send or give help.

It's has been almost three years since Hurricane Katrina hit the City of New Orleans and there are students and teachers, giving up their summer, and coming here still to do what they can. Because of our Christian values, we have some of the best citizen in the world.

When this female suicide bomber looked into the eyes of these police officers, she knew she was going to take their lives and hoping to take many more as she dies. She was going to give her life, not to help, but to take. A true terrorist care just about himself and his cause and no one else. He or she will kill the innocence to further their cause. Their hatred is so great, they will kill themselves, to kill the ones they hate.

How many heavens are there? And what is the true path to get there? I think I will follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Syria Must Come Clean About N. Korea Nukes

The White House said Thursday that North Korea did secret work on a nuclear reactor with Syria, calling it "a dangerous and potentially destabilizing development for the world" and raising doubts about Pyongyang's intention to carry through with a promised disclosure of its nuclear activities.

Seven months after Israel bombed the site, the White House broke its silence and said North Korea assisted Syria in a secret nuclear program and that the destroyed facility was not intended for "Peaceful Purposes."

The White House issued a two page statement after lawmakers were given details about the alleged reactor in a series of briefings on Capitol Hill. The briefing included a video presentation of intelligence information that the administration contends establishes a strong link between North Korea,s nuclear program and the bombed Syrian site. The briefing also included still photographs that showed a strong resemblance between specific features of the plant and one near Yongbyon in North Korea.

Syria is a nation that is listed as a state sponsor of terror and is home to terror group Hezbollah. A year ago the State Department made it quite clear they did not want Nancy Pelosi to visit Syria but she went anyway. Pelosi met with Syrian President Bashar Assad and said, "The road to Damascus is a road to peace." Even The Washington Post editorialized that "Ms. Pelosi's attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish. Does Nancy Hates President Bush that much she's willing to make herself look foolish?

Former President Carter, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, praised Pelosi's trip, Staying, "I have known President Bashar al-Assad since he was a college student, and I thought it might be helpful if I went and urged him to support the peace in the Middle East. But for the only time in my life as a former president, I was ordered by the White House not to go." But he went anyway. Another Democrat attempting to establish a shadow presidency.

Syria, North Korea and Iran will have to be dealt with by the new President of the United States. Now we know how a Democrat president will act because neither one of the Democrat candidates criticized Pelosi or Carter. We need a president like John McCain to deal with these countries.

Former President Carter said Monday that the Islamic group Hamas was willing to accept the Jewish state as a "neighbor next door," but the militants did not match their upbeat words with concrete steps to halt violence.

Hamas, which advocates Israel's destruction, instead recycled previous offers, including a 10 year truce if Israel takes the unlikely step of withdrawing from the West Bank and Jerusalem first.

Hamas has repeated confounded obsevers with its conflicting messages. Actions on the ground: seven ropckets were fired on Israel from ruled Gaza Monday, including one that wounded a 4 year old boy, contradicted the Islamic militant group's positive words about coexistence and truce.

And a leader of the Hamas military wing, which carried out a twin suicide bombing on the Gaza border Saturday. said his group would step up attacks against Israel in coming days.

The United States considers the Palestinian group Hamas a terrorist organization. They hate Israel and their main objective is to drive Israel from the middle east by killing women and children with suicide bombers. Rice and the State Department urged Carter not to travel to the region and not to meet with Hamas but he did because Bush is not his President.

What did President Jimmy Carter achieve in his recent, controversial talks with leaders of Hamas and Syria? Not a thing. "I did the best I could," Carter said of his conversation with Hamas supreme leader.

Israel wants peace, that is the reason they gave the Palestinians the Gaza Strip, for self government. On September 12th 2005 Palestinians celebrated in the abandoned Jewish settlements of the Gaza Strip following 38 years of occupation. Thousands of Palestinians rushed into the area that used to be the Jewish settlements in Gaza, and burned at least four synagogues. Now they want Israel to give more.

Ever since Israel withdrew its troops from Gaza in 2005, Hamas has used Gaza as a launching pad for its campaign of genocide against Israel and its citizens. Hamas has been firing rockets, about 2,000, so far, from Gaza into Israel, especially on the town of Sderot, with the objective of killing as many Jewish civilians as possible. It has done so from within civilian areas using them as human shields.

It is time for former President Jimmy Carter to go back into retirement and allow who is the President at the time, to make the decisions on foreign policy. Jimmy Carter, by trying to make President Bush look bad, make himself look like a fool again.
