Campaign observers: Time is ripe for Obama to step up his game
It's not panic time - yet - but some Democrats watching Barack Obama say his campaign should have gotten a wake-up call this week, not only from his appearance alongside John McCain at the Saddleback Church but from a major poll suggesting he no longer leads his GOP opponent.
At the Saddleback forum with Pastor Rick Warren on Saturday in San
Diego, the Republican presidential candidate delivered on-the-money
messages and answers so effective they were "scary to me," said George Lakoff, a renowned author and UC Berkeley linguistics professor who has studied how the human brain absorbs and processes messages.

There is widespread panic among Democrats as Barack Obama falls in national political polls. In the new Reuters/Zogby poll John McCain leads Barack Obama by 5-points among likely U.S. voters. McCain has 46 percent to Obama's 41 percent. Just last month in July, Reuters/Zogby had Obama with a solid 7-point lead.
What is happening? Well according to pollster John Zogby, "There is no doubt the campaign to discredit Obama is paying off for McCain right now. This is a significant ebb for Obama."
The Democrats and their media helpers, have said that this economy is so bad as a result of President Bushes policies. Remember the economy is the number one issue on the public's mine. They, the Democrats, are pushing the idea that if you elect McCain, he will be just another George Bush. Bush's third term. But McCain now has a 9-point lead over Obama when it comes to who would be the best manager of the economy. McCain has 49 percent to Obama's 40 percent.
Barack Obama should have gotten a wake-up call at the Saddleback Church. Senator John McCain cleaned Obama's clock. In fact John McCain did so well, that Obama's surrogates called foul. They claimed that McCain cheated.
In a panic, some Democrats say it's clear Obama needs to sharpen his message and get tougher on beating back attacks from McCain's campaign. Others are saying that Obama's message of change needs to be revamped. Change toward what end?
Some are saying that Obama is the new Jimmy Carter. He is showing weakness in dealing with the Clinton;s and a lack of strength and resolve in standing up to Russia. As widespread panic among Democrats heat up, keep an eye on Barack Obama. You will start to hear him say crazy things and accuse McCain of lying and cheating.
