The Beltway Crash - WSJ.com
The 228-205 defeat reflects badly on all concerned, starting with the
Democrats who run the House. The majority party is responsible for
assembling a majority vote, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi failed in that
fundamental task.
Her highly partisan speech on the floor -- blaming "right-wing ideology of anything goes, no supervision, no discipline, no regulation" for the financial distress -- is no excuse for Republicans to vote no. But it is indicative of the way she has governed for the past two years -- like Tom DeLay without the charm. The cynics are saying Ms. Pelosi deliberately tanked the bill by giving 95 Democrats a pass, knowing failure would hurt John McCain, and given her track record we can see why people would believe it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Well what did Pelosi say? She bashed President Bush and blamed the Republicans for the mess we are in today. Which President Bush and the Republicans have been warning the congress that something must be done for the last 6 years. And Nancy blames Wall street rather those who are over these committees, like Frank and Dodd. But I really think what upset the Republicans was her last words.
I know that we, Democrats, will be able to live up to our side of the bargain. I hope the Republicans will, too. And before long we will have a new Congress, a new president of the United States, and we will be able to take our country in a new direction.
So what was Ms Nancy saying? Here it is in a nut shell. Before long there will be a new Democrat Congress and we will not need you Republicans, just like I have been trying to ignore you. We will have Mr. Barack Obama as our president and we, the Democrats, will be able to take this country in the direction that we want. You Republicans will be history.
The cynics are saying Ms. Pelosi deliberately tanked the bill by
giving 95 Democrats a pass, because they are running for
re-election in tight districts, knowing failure would hurt John
McCain and help Barack Obama. Given her track record we can see why people would believe it.
Because of the bailout and the economy, people are in a panic and Obama is ahead in the latest polls. But this can change next week, it all depends on the economy. So you will see Nancy Pelosi bash President Bush and blame the Republicans. You will see the News Media play the roll on how bad it might be and behind the scene back Barack Obama.
But it will not work and here is why. The Bradley effect.
The term Bradley effect, less commonly called the Wilder effect, refers to a frequently observed discrepancy between voter opinion polls and election outcomes in American political campaigns when a white candidate and a non-white candidate run against each other. Named for Tom Bradley, an African-American who lost the 1982 California governor's race despite being ahead in voter polls, the Bradley effect refers to a tendency on the part of voters -- black as well as white -- to tell pollsters that they are undecided or likely to vote for a Black candidate, when, on election day, they vote for his/her white opponent.
The Country is conservative. That is why in the past 40 years we have had Republican presidents. Except for Carter and Clinton who ran as conservative Democrats. Barack Obama is the most liberal Senator in Congress and with little experience, compared to Senator Al Gore or Senator John Kerry. And they lost. Remember, not the polls but the people will tell us who will be our next president.
